Put-in-Bay offers island visitors an eclectic mix of live entertainment and the Crescent Tavern provides entertainment on both the outdoor patio and inside the Historic landmark's Tap Room. Cleveland ers have been coming to the island for nearly two decades to listen to "Westside" Steve Simmons. Westside is the "daytime anchor" at the Crescent Patio most afternoons during the season. Westside's popularity began more than 30 years ago when he and several friends from Norton High School formed the rock and roll band the Rats. The group re-emerged in 1976 as The Easy Street Band with Westside as its front man. Easy Street toured much of the US and Canada and Westside shared the stage with Meatloaf, Southside Johnny, Tom Petty, .38 Special, Gregg Allman and others. When the band started to wane in the late 70's, Westside struck out on his own. He landed at Put-in-Bay in 1988 and has been an island name ever since. Westside's counterpart in the Tap Room is the Maxx Band. The Maxx Band is five guys from Toledo, Ohio who play dance music, rock music, country music, alternative, blues, classic rock, oldies, R&B, and the occasional polka. They've opened for Starship, Thin Lizzie and Foghat and they've performed in concert with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra. The Maxx Band plays only hits and the band says "If you don't know it, we don't play it." The Maxx Band has also been the entertainment for the island's annual Oktoberfest since it began 14 years ago in 1993. |
